Create massive art images in the ionosphere using an artificial aurora generator.

OK. Not so fast with the fishbones.

This one isn't that crazy.

There exists an artificial aurora generator in Alaska. It's part of a project (sorry don't have a link right now) to study the Aurora Borealis.

The way it works is that it is a high energy directional antennae that points straight up, and when "fired" produces a momentary, but artificial aurora.

I'm proposing a device that would be a slight modification of that one which would scan a part of the sky, firing in such a way as to create "pixels" in the ionosphere, similar to a cathode ray picture tube.

Images would no doubt be whifty and odd, but it's all about stretching the boundaries of art... in this case the sky IS the limit.

I love the thought and hope that you can find a link. I am interested in knowing more about the study.

I guess its safe to say that i like the idea! +

HAARP was the project I was thinking of, but I couldn't remember it... thanks for the link.

When I was going to MIT in the 80s, there was an artist name Joe Davis at the Center for Advanced Visual Studies who had an eye patch and a peg leg. Joe had a project called "New Wave Ruby Falls," an ion generator deployed from the space shuttle designed to create an artificial Aurora Borealis. After the Challenger disaster, Joe's art project was dropped from the payload roster.

Argh! Those pennypinchers in the Whitehouse eh!, Won't spend billions of pounds lauching some students art project into orbit....I just wish they would spend more on the space program~

The fools in the Whitehouse never spend pounds.

I meant billions of pounds worth of dollars... :)

Where I am, fools spend pounds.....
