Pimp My Mobility Scooter   (+20, -5)  [vote for, against]
Reverse the hum drum mobility mentality.

Walking to work recently, I was passed in the street by a battery powered mobility scooter. At the same moment, glorious fate made it that a bad ass motorbike fired up behind me, and for one wonderful moment I thought the gutteral growl was eminating from the 12 volt 5mph wheelchair.

If that scooter *had* made that noise, what a wonderful world it would be.

Was it Bennie Hill or the Goodies who used to have the Hell's Grannies skit?

Are you proposing anything here?

Pimp my pimple...

//Are you proposing anything here?//

Brizzles: my proposal is: There should be a facility for adding unexpected sounds, such as revving engines, to a set of fairly mundane battery powered vehicles, for the purposes of confronting stereotypes often imposed upon mobility scooter users, empowering individuals to express individuality rather than being confined to a battleship grey chair, and generally making the world a more beautiful place.

po - thanks, sorry it's been a while!

"...generally making the world a more beautiful place" - a more noisy place, certainly.

I can't remember who makes them, but one of the mainstream Japanese motorcycle manufacturers has a wheelchair compatible model. Normal motorbike front forks and handlebars attached to a trike sled with a drawbridge style loading ramp at the back. You ride your wheelchair into the back of it, clamp it in place, lift the tailgate and ride.

And the only one I've ever seen in real life was pimped to the max - "Grow Old Disgracefully" stickers, anit-nuke slogans, foxtail on the mirror, pumping sound system.

Phat.

//seems that these people have done it (130 mph!)// 130 mph in a wheelchair...what could possibly go wrong?
-- sleeka, Nov 29 2005

At least you'd already be in an appropriate chair.
