Science: Health: Seasonal Affective Disorder
Pleasure Chest   (+10)  [vote for, against]
for those who get SAD in winter

Bemoaning the dreaded winter darkness and other unpleasant wintry things like cold rain, snow, slushy feet, and a relatively grey fading to white landscape, I dream of Summer. The Pleasure Chest can be your own personal treasure chest. There are 2 sizes; a tabletop version and a floor model. Mine would be a rather large box painted in a tropical style with Hibiscus and Bougainvillea flowers of many colors. When opened, the top lid of the trunk lights up with full spectrum lights and/or some tanning lights. There is a small well for essential oil (or fragrance) near the light, so when it warms up the scents of summer float around. I like coconut or ones reminiscent of suntan lotion. In the lower section there are some empty cubicles for placing objects like shells, other found objects from the beach, or anything that brings back that Summer feeling. (sand, ants, picnic items, snorkels, flippers, a Sponge Bob bathing suit, or drinks with paper umbrellas…) I’d put in Pineapple Lip balm, Jamaican rum, my favorite beach towel, and a small Zen fountain just to start. For those who want visuals, there is an optional DVD player available. It is powered by electricity but may be able to operate on a large rechargeable battery for a short time.

A New York stalwart. This place will either really cheer you up or make you very depressed indeed. [DrCurry, Jan 19 2006]

The cost isn't relevant at all. We're in the HB, [21]. Give over with this cost-obsession. Everything here is imaginary, including the contents of our pockets.
