Quantum Leap PDA Cover   (0)  [vote for, against]
Protect your PDA... with a bit of nostalgia.

Those who remember the TV series "Quantum Leap" will likely remember Al's hand-held computer remote, which he used to communicate with Ziggy and other members of the Quantum Leap Project. Since the "remote" was roughly PDA-sized, I think it's not much of a stretch to make a PDA cover which would mimic it.
Imagine a PDA cover lovingly crafted of transparent and translucent yellow plastic into the "futuristic" chunky shape of Al's remote, fitted with LEDs of various colors interspresed throughout it. While the cover would be largely shock absorbant and impact resistant, it would also be fitted with noisemakers which would sound whenever the unit received a sudden jar (this feature is included to mimic the scenes where Al would get frustrated with his remote and give it a smack, resulting in an electronic squeal of protest). Naturally, the sound and lights could be disabled for times when such things would be inappropriately distracting.
I think this PDA cover would be both functional and serve as a conversation piece for fans of the Quantum Leap show.

Ziggy (held by Al) http://www.angelfir...ages/REBEL13thn.jpg
Ludicrously colourful handheld device, generally battered with Al's fingers (definitely not touchscreen tech' - in fact after S DeG's link, definitely not even screen tech' !). [Jinbish, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

My PDA has a flip-up clear plastic cover, but I've been contemplating changing that for a sheet of gold mesh, so that it looks like an Original Series "Star Trek" communicator.

Some people would like this though. Croissant.

Let me check really quick, [bliss]. I'll link one if I find it.

Okay, so the "original" didn't have a screen. (Probably why I couldn't find a good image of it on the QL fansites I searched; when you get a good look at it, it's obviously made of legos. Also, it's more colorful than I remember.) According to how Al treated the handlink in the episodes, it was supposed to have some kind of screen. The PDA cover version of it would end up being bulkier, but it'd look close enough to the original for most fans' purposes (heck, *I* wouldn't have known the difference. Heh.).
