Role-Playing Game - Another idea inspired by Docbrown

An interactive story that you have while on hold, where you can win promotional items and discounts from the company you are on hold with the longer you play or the better you do.

Trust me, your IT department is honing these sorts of skills, after school, after work or during work. Now they have a chance to earn your company discounts as well.

We are currently assisting other customers and the expected wait time is...[39] minutes. You can press 1 choose from our interactive story menu or you can enter your 6 digit customer-on-hold story number now.

You are Robert Carr of Applied Electrical and HVAC Inc. If this is correct press 1.
(1)

You currently have a level 28 character, you have earned 3 free t-shirts, one 5% discount on new equipment and one free maintenance visit. You have spent a total of 19.4 hours on hold with us over 3 years. And now your story.

The blue light from the crystaline glacier walls is the only thing that presents a serene atmosphere. The chill in the atmosphere makes your dagger painful to touch and your lungs want to expell the frigid air in disbelief. Around you can be heard the echoed clicking of a nearby frost worm. The echos prevent you from tracking it further. Paths lead off to the left and right and you know you can alway go back to leave. Press 1 to go left, 2 to go right and 3 to go back.

Does it matter? [blissmiss, Nov 04 2004]

I'm not sure many would be into the role-playing type game, but this could be adapted to many types of games. Jepardy, quiz-show style, "solve that differential equation". Choose your game at the beginning of hold. The best prize to include would be pushing yourself up the que.
-- Worldgineer, Nov 01 2004

Pushed up the que, that's a good idea [World].

"You have chosen on-hold blackjack. There are currently 58 calls ahead of you and 128 calls behind you. How many places would you like to bet?"
-- Worldgineer, Nov 01 2004

what [sartep] said.. or the better you are at the quizzes the more efficient/higher rating operative you get to speak to.
-- neilp, Nov 02 2004

As someone who loved all those "turn to page such and such to see if the cheese defeats the bear" type books, I'd go with the original RPG flavour.[+]

Brilliant. But can I spin a wheel, or have a lever in hand? ( If even one cracko-head psychobaker bends this back to the election, I'll personally come and bend your lever, forever, and not in a good way).
-- blissmiss, Nov 04 2004

There might be a prob. Rumor has it that your lever has been leaning left, for a, v-e-r-y, long time.

So long, in fact, that it has made history. (Going to search in porno areas, mama's put yer chillin to sleep).
-- blissmiss, Nov 04 2004

Sorry, but I almost cried myself to tears with that one. (dunno, looks very scary to me!)
-- blissmiss, Nov 04 2004

temper temper.
-- etherman, Nov 04 2004

and you have a fancy phone where you can 'see' the options when you choose them. cool.
-- etherman, Nov 04 2004

I thought you were Austrailian?

//"You have chosen on-hold blackjack. There are currently 58 calls ahead of you and 128 calls behind you . . .// "Press * 8 if you would like to utilize 'stealth' to sidle up behind the next person in queue and make a skill-roll for a sneak-attack with your blackjack."
-- contracts, Nov 04 2004

This gets my "Yes! Yes!" vote. :)
-- ghillie, Nov 04 2004

Yeah, and if you've seen any of the combined rules series, you know how well our nations get on. All a bit of fun dont ya know.
