Resealable throat port   (+1)  [vote for, against]
Sometimes your mouth is busy

We have to breathe, like all the time. Sometimes, as in the case of a laryngospasm, while choking, or when drinking in abundance, it may be desirable to have a second means of supplying the lungs with air. Enter the resealable throat port. Flesh colored or with designer style, the throat port allows your lungs secondary access to the world with the flip of your thumb.

Effectively baked http://sleepdisorde...eekly/aa052800a.htm
And reversible. But no indication if it looks nice. [Worldgineer, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 05 2004]

This is baked in all humans, all your invention does is make the cover easier to take off and put back on. ;)

I remember the sheer panic of patients who were being encouraged to breathe normally after a period using a tracheotomy tube. this gives me the shivers...

This would be very creepy, because technically you could drink AND breath at the same time. + for the safety aspect, however creepy it is.

A good idea, but baked in many different ways. There are many types of tracheostomy covers including speaking valves, artifical noses, etc. Some are permanent covers, some are valves, and so on.

Cool, so you did post it.

Evolution picked a bad design for the breathing and eating tubes to cross.

Shame the existing designs (in the links) are ugly.

I'm thinking black leather with a silver pull ring connected to the top.

oh ok. you got me :)

someone recently commented on the relative intimacy of the human procreation organs and the sewer system...

Does it exist? I see permenent tracheostomy holes, holes that let only some air through, holes that only let air flow only one way. I don't see any that have an semi-perminent plug for only emergency use. And I don't see any that are diamond studed.

Thanks, [contracts]. It's news to me - called a tube-free tracheostomy. See link.

Didn't do it in the book though, [contracts]!
