Residential Dunes   (+6, -5)  [vote for, against]
Your own private beach!

Backyard Dunes, inc. will come and deliver as many truckloads of beach sand as are required to build up your backyard into beautiful rolling sand dunes.

Optional desert oasis kit includes 3 foot kiddie pool and coconut tree to be buried in the center of your private dunes. Or, just build the dunes around your existing swimming pool for a larger private beach.

Wind patterns will cause your landscaping to change slowly over time, so Backyard Dunes, inc. will make a yearly inspection, and will return any stray sand from the neighbors yard back to your private paradise.

Permit may be required in some areas.

If it were only bakeable... http://meyermicro.com/pages/duneride.html
..this would be my back yard [Mr Burns, Jul 20 2002]

So... this is a company that delivers sand, yes?

"Backyard Dunes, inc. will make a yearly inspection, and will return any stray sand from the neighbors yard back to your private paradise" ... will they also sift out the cat turds, and return them to their rightful owners ? I'd pay extra for that.

<obligatory> Insert 8th of 7's standard anti-cat rant here </obligatory>

st3f: I guess if you think of it that way, yes. Do you know anyone with their own (man-made) backyard sand dunes? Hmm, maybe no one ever thought of delivering that much sand before
-- Mr Burns, Jul 19 2002

Maybe they could start a sideline delivering backyard mountains, complete with snow and hiking trails.
-- FarmerJohn, Jul 19 2002

Mountains are notoriously difficult to transport. Sand, on the other hand, is easily loaded, easily dumped, and easily worked around the yard.

I see a pile of fishbones coming for lack of explosiveness, danger, or home furnishing melee potential..

Building code won't let them dig more than 10 feet deep.. We can do a Grand Furrow, tho..

I hate to say this but it's baked, sort of. Many pool companies will come and make you a beach in your yard, with a REAL pool, not a kiddie one. It's not exactly like the idea presented here, though.

Link is forthcoming...

polar: Beaches are so.....flat...

<excessive rambling>The link shows some dunes not too far from me. They're such a popular spot for ATV riders (such as I) that you need to secure a voucher up to three days in advance just to get in for a quick spin. If only they were just around back...</excessive rambling>

Aww sheesh, why not? I think my cat would prefer a yard filled with dunes of that lovely clumping litter, though...
-- polartomato, Jul 20 2002

"Backyard Dunes, inc. will make a yearly inspection, and will return any stray sand from the neighbors yard back to your private paradise."

How would they do this? Would it be economically viable to send round a team of sand collectors each year, would you have to pay a subcription fee?

Besides, you could buy sand from a builders yard and get it delivered. It might have bits of rubble/glass in it though.

<Obligatory> I thought this would be about building a house in a sand dune (or covering your house so it looks like one) </Obligatory>

Read about Paris the other day. What the hell are they thinking?
-- waugsqueke, Jul 22 2002

I quite like what they've done. Still 1.5 million euro's is a lot just for sand and a few of trees.
