The good news is there'd be much more singing. The bad news is it wouldn't be good.

The songs would be recited, without music, by the performer sitting on a stool smoking a cigarette.

When the stage hand rushed on stage with a stool, a pack of cigarettes and a lighter you'd say "Oh, good, here comes a song so we can get a break from the awful, nonstop music." The obvious advantage of this is being you'd actually look FORWARD to the songs in musicals.

Oh yea, and the audience would be encourage to light up too during the "song" sections.
