Running Boat   (+6, -1)  [vote for, against]
tread water and head downstream

Running Boat is a long narrow vessel, like a sculler, except it has no oars. Instead of oars, Running Boat is moved forward using leg power alone.

This is possible because the crew sit with their lower limbs contained within waterproof leggings that are attached to the bottom of the boat in such a way as to keep it totally water tight. The leggings terminate in flippers, meaning that with a coordinated vigorous running action, the boat is propelled forward at a considerable speed. The crew all grip individual fixed handles allowing them to divert even more energy into their legs.

Unlike an oar powered boat, this arrangement allows the entire crew to face forwards, meaning that they can always see where they are going.

Hey, I like this.

I'd be afraid of sharks biting my legs though. Even in a pond, I'd be afraid it escaped from a zoo or something.

This gives me an idea.

You can select the waterproof, shark's teeth resistant, chain-mail leggings option.

Hmm. Shark resistant you say? I'd need "shark proof" to get on-board.

Love the idea though.

//allows the entire crew to face forwards// if by "forwards" you mean "downwards".
