Scoreboard TV   (-2)  [vote for, against]
A second TV channel to show the scoreboard of the game you're watching

Have you ever been watching sport on tv when the score pops up and blocks the view? Or, have you ever been watching sport on tv and wanted to know the score, but it's not on screen at that moment?

I suggest two tv channels for each game. One showing the game and the other showing the current score and game stats.

Obviously, two tvs located side by side would be needed to make full use of this facility, but with our modern lifestyle, this should present no great barrier.

This idea could also be used to make normal tv accessible to people with hearing difficulties. One channel showing normal tv, and the other showing an interpretor utilising sign language.

That's why TVs now have the closed captioning button....which is also really nice when you're stuck on the phone and have the TV on mute....you can read what's happening to follow along

Why not just suggest that sports channels keep a scoreboard on the bottom of the screen during live telecasts of sporting events?

[Susen] This often obscures the view. Particularly when games such as snooker are being shown. When watching snooker, it is useful to be able to see the whole table.

Not got teletext on your TV? I know it's not big in the US, but you're British, aren't you? As-it-happens scoring for lots of sporting events. Alternatively, a PC logged onto the web.

Yes, I have got teletext.

I'll say it one more time - I don't want my view of the game obscured.

Then get 2 tvs, and put teletext on one. Sorry, I don't understand what else you want.

Get a TV card on your PC (like me). That way you can have the picture in one window, teletext in another and the halfbakery in the third.

Maybe the announcer could just say the score from time to time, or is it important not to obscure the snooker audio as well?

Better yet, redesign the signal so that the image is multi-layered and the user can turn the scoreboard on/off at will.

Wouldn't work well for broadcast TV, but you could do it with a cable box.

Or just put it on the bottom of the screen and slightly compress the picture so there's room for it, like most of them seem to do.

-- A little box, a scorebox, that you place on the top of your TV that displays the score on whatever sports game you happen to be watching. The score data could be encoded into the vertical interval along with the VITS and VIRS stuff.

-- Or, a score watch that receives scores similar to the way the Motorola SportsTrax pager thingy once did (discontinued, I think).
