Steel Drum Urinals   (+35, -1)  [vote for, against]
Because we're all musicians at heart.

Steel drum bands are fanstastic. They've got a sound which is unlike anything else. Rich and percussive, there is nothing else that sounds quite the same. And when you consider how they're made, the sound becomes all the more unique - see link.

From the toilets of most clubs you can't really hear the music. Sometimes you just get a thumping beat coming through the walls; at best, you can hear vague intimations of a muffled bassline that usually bears no relation to what's going on on the dancefloor.

Steel drum urinals make sure the music continues into the smallest room in the club. Skillfully beaten into the tin bowl urinal are several various panels which yield different notes when you direct the force of your flow upon them.

Beats writing your name in the snow, I reckon.

-- DeathNinja, Sep 15 2003

More like a theremin than a steel drum, no?
-- phoenix, Sep 15 2003

+1. shame I can't play.
-- po, Sep 16 2003

Sure you can. Steel drum toilets. You could play "One Note Samba".
-- Cedar Park, Sep 16 2003

+ Oh, nonsense Po, there are thousands of sites on the web that will teach you how to play the steel drums, and the benefit of learning is that you will be able to take advantage of the shorter lines.
-- sartep, Sep 16 2003

"Where are you going?"
"Out."
"What are you going to do?"
"Write in the snow."
"You'll need your snow shoes! It's two feet deep."
-- FarmerJohn, Sep 16 2003

Great idea! I foresee damp shoes though...

you'll need to drink plenty of beer
-- po, Sep 16 2003

How do you play one of these on stage? I guess you need dozens of players, lined up, ready to step in to take their turn when the stream begins to weaken. Two hour concert, average 30 seconds each player, that makes 240 players needed, am I right? I don't want to be last in that line. [slips all over the stage on the way to the urinal) [+]
-- oxen crossing, Sep 16 2003

you'd use a hose connected to a tap, silly.
-- po, Sep 16 2003

You would need to make different timbred drums along the wall. This would work best in a stadium or other big bathroom. When all urinals were in use, there would be a colossal chord worthy of a urologic Jamaican Bach.

*THUMP*
-- thumbwax, Sep 16 2003

can I vote again? pretty please..
-- po, Sep 16 2003

A two hour concert? The drum would be considerably full by then, would it not?
-- X2Entendre, Sep 16 2003

I hope the drum has a drain, or we're all wet.
-- oxen crossing, Sep 17 2003

Just needs an upside down fly to get really dangerous.
-- oxen crossing, Sep 17 2003

So, um, would some guys have, you know, more of a range on these than other guys...?
-- Ander, Sep 17 2003

I like the idea... but this as a 'drinking game' is a bit disturbing
-- Lacus Trasumenus, Mar 15 2004

Perhaps something patrons can drink that clumps the urine into more percussion friendly globs?
-- bristolz, Mar 15 2004

Gallstones perhaps...
-- Lacus Trasumenus, Mar 16 2004

This idea is totally sick. (obligatory gripe)

Having spent time in Grenada, I love the sound of steel drums. I love this idea. [+]
-- Klaatu, Mar 16 2004

If your not getting the sound you want, drop in a urinal cake and chase that around a while. By the way, better make it a stainless steel drum.
-- Spare parts, Jul 03 2004

Genius. Despite whatever Paul Daniels might have to say.
