Swarming Mini-Blimp Sky Matrix   (+8)  [vote for, against]
Not only spells out words, can form logos, do simple character animation etc.

Ever see schools of fish move in sequence? Ok, ever seen a cartoon where they spell out words, or form a big single fish or do some other kind of visual gag?

So you get a couple of hundred 2 foot long powered blimps that each have gps so they can go to exact locations in a matrix in the sky and form stuff. You then send them their preset programming to act as pixels in your sky movie.

For absolute windless days only of course, but I think it would make a real eye catching display. A swarm of these suckers fly over and start their routine you'd have everybody looking up. Great for sporting events.

A marriage proposal with these spelling out "Will you marry me (name of proposed bride)?" would have real panache.

One where you actually filled out her name would be even better.

Fast forward to about 18 seconds into the clip. And turn the sound off. The blue fish is really annoying. [doctorremulac3, Jan 25 2012]

You could give the systems away cheap and use them to advertise dog food using the [doctor]'s idea [normzone, Jan 25 2012]
