Westerners like cucumbers. They are not scary. New food is fun but not if it is too new.

Cucumbers are in the melon family. Cantaloupes and cucumbers can naturally hybridize. I propose that such a hybrid be backbred such that it has the look and texture and edible seeds of a cucumber, but the sweetness of a cantaloupe.

Baked - African horned cucumber. It wasn't produced in the way you suggest, and it is spiky, but it is sweet.
