The eye-catching flashy spinning sun hat   (+2)  [vote for, against]
Solar powered spinning disco ball hat

The base of the device consists of a support similar to the insides of a hardhat. The support is connected to the shaft of a small electric motor. The motor is mounted on a hemispherical dish with a flat segment at it's connection point. The flat segment houses a solar panel that is used to power the electric motor. Affixed to the sides of the dish are mirrors or other flashy items designed to reflect sunlight and create an eye-pleasing display for passers-by.

Closer... http://www.geocitie...B/discoballhat.html
The colored dots on the sides are flashy things attached to strings. The multi-colored dots on the hat are different colored mirrors. Still not nearly as flashy as I want it. [Worldgineer, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 21 2004]

Whoa! Picture please (NOW!) +
-- gnomethang, Aug 08 2003

:-(

No picture. I just don't have the artistic skills of others here. Really, you wouldn't want to see an engineer's rendering of this.
-- Worldgineer, Aug 08 2003

With my luck, the guy sitting in front of me at the movies will be wearing one of these.
-- DeathNinja, Aug 08 2003

Who cares? It's dark in there.
-- Worldgineer, Aug 08 2003

[Worldgineer] I don't blame you, I already have the construction in my head, no need to spoil it!. If I Drew it, it would probably end up looking like [abhi]'s 'Action Device' on paper so we could all go home.
Link *IF* you wish to marvel one more time.

[Wg] That Link Rocks (or at least does *serious* Disco}
I know Exactly what you mean (i.e. not quite that!).
-- gnomethang, Aug 08 2003

[Worldgineer] If it looks anything like that picture then you can see the problem
-- DeathNinja, Aug 08 2003

//not nearly as tall// if that's your issue.

A bit closer to my second link. Would very much welcome anyone else's interpretation.

[Worldgineer]: I tried to get [Closer...] but the Gator drive-by download and a zillion popups drove me away! What gives?
-- Cedar Park, Aug 12 2003

[CP] Really sorry. I hate pop-ups. I didn't notice any, but then I have the google toolbar running (I recommend it). I chose that site because they gave me a free web page. Any suggestions on a better one?
-- Worldgineer, Aug 12 2003

Ok, I've switched to Geocities. Less popups, but they are still there.
-- Worldgineer, Sep 03 2003

[wg] I don't receive any popups at all. Maybe I am blessed by fortune (for once).
-- gnomethang, Sep 03 2003

What about the Asian pointed cone shaped design for the hat? Wouldn't be a ball but would have a similar effect.
-- spectator, Sep 03 2003

Good, but you need something flat pointing upward for the solar panel. Perhaps on a rim?
-- Worldgineer, Sep 03 2003

Hmm...If there was a stripe of solar panels extending around the circumference hat, say about 1in. thick, it would ensure continuous solar exposure in sunlight.

Still scratching my head about the phrase // serious disco //
