Thermometer Blanket   (-1)  [vote for, against]
Let Sleeping Sickies Lie

This comfortable blanket has body temperature sensors woven into it. An attached LCD provides a constant readout of the sick patient's temperature.

A simple data port allows the temperature data to be streamed to a computer or network where it can be charted or viewed in real time.

There would be no need to ever wake up an ailing patient (especially ones that tend to scream and cry when woken). Thermometer blankie would also seem to be more pleasant than a rectal thermometer and less toxic than a mercury one!

This could also be huge in the hypochondriac market segment.

I like the idea, but don't think it will work. The temperature of the blanket will vary with the temperature of the room as much as the temperature of the patient.

I don't think a mercury thermometer is toxic; of course its not!

I like this idea very much if you can overcome [wr]'s objections. bun for you.

To help this work better, the temperature sensors would be woven into the inside of the blanket. I am actually picturing a "patch" woven into one side of the blanket that would need to be in contact or close to the patient's skin.

The patch could be, say, a square foot in area to make it easier to make contact.
