Water Slide Of Death ("Slippy Flippy Slide" for marketing purposes)   (+6)  [vote for, against]
Ride it standing up (if you can) get spun into the water at the end.

This water slide has a shallow beginning slope gradually turning downward to allow you to try to stand on your feet the whole way down.

After it turns upward to launch you at the end, there's a frictiony bit at the launch point that catches your feet and imparts a spin to your flight.

You would probably wear some kind of rubber slippers so the rough part at the end didn't hurt you. The end of the slide could be textured rubber so when the textured rubber soles on the slippers hit it your feet would pretty much stop, sending you spinning head over heels.

The faster you were going the faster you'd spin when you launched.

You might even give the slide varying levels of friction so you could control your descent. Very sticky on the outside to completely smooth in the middle, so keep your feet together you go fast, move them outward you go slower. Sort of a variation of turning your skis to control your speed.

I forsee frequent accidents and a broken ankle or three. +

Third paragraph, second sentence needs a comma. Maybe two, but at least one - after "stop".

This is a dangerously irresponsible idea, inevitably resulting in numerous patrons ending up in the E.R. followed by needing psychiatric counseling for PTSD, or even possibly the services of a funeral director.

Excellent. We don't want to try it ourselves, but watching others from the safety of a nearby drinking establishment would be most entertaining. [+]

//Water Slide Of Death// - I'm still not quite sure about the marketing of this

I was thinking that "Slippy Flippy Slide" might sound a little less ominous. The essential elements of danger would be left in place though.

//varying levels of friction so you could control your descent// I suspect that would not work. Sliding skin against wet plastic tends to be all or none: either you're zipping along on a film of water, or the water film breaks down and you're gripping.

No, you'd have the rubber booties.

But ok, they work EXACTLY like skis. They've got ridges running from heel to toe so that, when aimed forward, they act like skis and you go fast. When you turn your foot sideways, they flex sideways lowering the foot and exposing the high friction strips between the ridges. The more you turn, the more contact the sticky portion makes with the slide.

Not sure if that makes sense without a picture.

Why not just install a stout rope at ankle height ?
-- 8th of 7, Jul 07 2017

Or neck height?
