Xylophadiator   (+6, -1)  [vote for, against]
heats the room, plays a tune

Xylophadiator is a musical radiator that has the same layout as a xylophone. ie a series of parallel pipes that start small and gradually increase in length.

Each of the tubes has a hole in one end, enabling it to hang from a horizontal bar, but they are also all connected together at the bottom end by flexible piping, to allow hot water to flow through the system.

The combined effect of all this is to create a heating radiator that can also be played somewhat in the manner of a xylophone, with each of its progressively smaller/larger pipes being struck by a rubber tipped mallet to produce a note.

By adding a series of bimetallic strips or wax-filled pistons, coupled with little hammers and springs, you could have it play a scale when the heating is turned on or off.

You'd need to periodically bleed your radiator to tune it.

Can the tromboniator be far behind? Let us hope so.

You don't want the tromboniator behind, you want it in front. If it's behind, you get goosed evey time it plays a bass note.

How could anyone not want one?

Not if it's far behind, O squeaky one.

Depends on how far behind, and also on how much behind.
