make place names signs readable from space   (+2)  [vote for, against]

Saves map makers from having to label things and would help aliens learn geography.

If they can travel here, they can already see them from space.

That would be tricky for, say, the central part of Scunthorpe.
-- MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 01 2018

The places already spell out the inhabitant's innate nature.

// would help aliens learn geography //

We call it "xenography". And we don't need any help.

By perpetuating the myth that the Great Wall of China is visible from space, you could use this project as cover for an agenda of building odd-shaped barriers to mass migration. For example, a certain US president could simply write the label "Rio Grande" in a heavily-serifed font, with a customs barrier across the gap between the o and the G.

Spell it out in rebuses, especially Scunthorpe, then the aliens will be able to pick up on some of the semantic connotations. Manchester as a hairy muscular thorax plus a replica of an ancient Mesopotamian settlement.

No one will agree on the typeface to be used for this
-- hippo, Jan 02 2018

Despite the spelling, Arial would the natural choice.

Dildo Newfoundland will be hard.

Contrary 2 Fry's I think dildo new found land would be easy. 3 round abouts and a few strate roads, it's a small town.
