This idea uses the same principals as those key rings that beep when whistled at. The technology is fitted to the remote and when it is lost, whistle, it beeps and track it down.-- ponda_baba, Jun 22 2000 hearing aid http://www.halfbake..._22_20Hearing_20AidSame thing for a different device. [egnor, Jun 22 2000, last modified Oct 17 2004] Remote Finder http://Fox.NSTN.Ca/~gfong/Matchbox-sized device beeps when you clap. [jutta, Jun 22 2000] Real World Search http://www.halfbake...al_20World_20SearchBetter, more general idea. [bristolz, Sep 30 2002, last modified Oct 17 2004] How about a remote that beeps if you don't use it every n hours? That way, constant use would keep it quiet, and if left immobile for a while would assume it had been mis-placed and issue an audible warning.-- gfreeman, Jun 22 2000 Or a "page" button on the device being controlled, much like you find on cordless phone base stations.-- egnor, Jun 22 2000 I always wanted to have one of those beeping gadgets for my glasses-- razgalili, Jun 22 2000 Now that's a good idea! A generic version of this, about the size of a matchhead which could be attached to anything (like razgalili's glasses).-- hippo, Jun 22 2000 Or a device that would chirp/announce itself when you whistled. That way, no second unit necessary (i.e. what happens when you lose the paging device?...)
Could also be used with golf balls. Hit it into the rough and can't find it? Whistle and follow the chirp!-- jeddings, Jun 22 2000 Good idea. One downfall. The keyfinder devices I have seen (or heard) are ulta-sensitive. Meaning, yeah it's great when it's lost and you can whistle or clap to find it but the damn things don't stop beeping!!! If the remote was in your hand (not lost) and the phone rang, you called to someone upstairs, or there was a noise on the TV, the thing would start beeping!!! This could get a little annoying. This happened with the Clapper too.-- piff_trees, Jun 29 2000 Okay, what about a paging button on the appliance you are remotely controlling? Lose the remote, cross the room(heaven forbid!) press the button on the appliance and the remote starts beeping. Yeah I know just like egnor said on the 22nd.-- ponda_baba, Jun 29 2000 If you need that many buttons, you'd be better off spending the money on an 'improve your memory' course...
Ginkgo Viagra, to help you remember what the f*** you're doing...-- StarChaser, Jun 29 2000 I need that many buttons! If not more. Keys, wallet, remote, scissors, pens, batteries, um, if it's in my house and it can be moved, I've probably lost it at least once.
And I don't think a memory-improvement course would help, though I admit I've never tried one.-- egnor, Jul 09 2000 If your memory's that bad egnor, how do you *know* that you've never tried one?-- DrBob, Sep 29 2001 Perhaps only if one whistled the first few notes of, say, Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu, or the 7 notes of Close Encounter of the Third Kind's alien sequence . . . or clapped in the rythmic pattern of Queens "We Will Rock You," would these devices respond.-- bristolz, Sep 29 2001 random, halfbakery
