rent your car out   (+5)  [vote for, against]
your own car for rent like in Car2Go

Rent your own car out to others through a Car2Go-like or zipcar like system, so that anybody with the online key can turn your car on and drive it away, returning it at a given time. (link)

Of course, you can cancel the deal for certain hours when you want your car for yourself.

zipcar and in Israel City-Car and Zipcar all work with a network of their own cars. My idea is to use any old car.

Insurance rates could be problematic.

I approve of this idea

and my idea is for well kept OLD cars. You need good feedback from the previous driver for the next time. The price changes for the car according to reported condition and previous drivers' feedback, and for the person renting according to the reported condition that the cars were given back in.

Rent your ambulance out. ??

( Friend was recently charged $3500 for a three mile ride to the hospital. Calling 911 can be expensive. )

This sounds very doable. AirB&B you rent your house. Uber you rent your car but you remain in it. It is not hard for an insurer to deduce rates for an individual and this would be part of registering with the app. If I am Joe Crash I would be charged more thru the app as it costs more to insure me than some perfect driver.

So, if I pay someone to take your car, beat on it, then I can rent it from you for cheaper? I'm sensing a few flaws in this idea.

Is it possible to address the insurance issue by having a separate insurance policy for when it's rented plus a small additional premium on the owner's insurance for wear and tear such as people knackering the gear box or being less careful because it's not their vehicle?
