Activities:

1. Had a discussion about what pentomino shapes are and recognizing space that those shapes could create. Then, discussed about flips, slides and turns. Students showed what each turn meant with the shapes.

2. Students were given a retangular grid with box units and pentamino shape cutouts. They fit all 12 shapes by using the grid as a guide.

3. Next, they were given a wooden rectangle box and the 12 wooden pentomino shapes. Students used prior strategies and spatial thinking to use all 12 pentamino shapes to fit now into a retangular box.

Activities:

1. Started with a discussion about what elapsed time means. Students verbally discussed examples of situations dealing with elapsed time.

2. Discussed concepts that relate to time. Talked about how many minutes in a hour, quarter till, quarter after, half past, etc.

3. Students then did an activity called, "Elapsed Time Problem Trail." They needed to answer a variety of time elapsed problems and the answer would lead them on a trail. They needed to get through the trail from beginning to end.
