HALFBAKERY THIS WEEK   (+3, -2)  [vote for, against]
All the news about the Halfbakery that's fit to print. (or not)

A post that can be updated by any halfbaker giving a newsletter style overview of the happenings, postings, top ideas or other interesting events of that week for people short on time.

Example: "Lots of crazy ideas this week, the top bunned idea being from Halfbaker crazy-cat for their invention "Halloween Cerberus Dog Costume" where two dogs share one body suit with both heads sticking out. The post ignited furious debate about the number of heads Cerberus had and even elicited accusations of animal cruelty causing at least one baker to accuse crazy-cat of being worse than Hitler."

Updated every Sunday by anybody who wants to give an overview of the most interesting HB events, posts, debates, flame wars, happy Halfbaker life events etc of that week.

This week on the Halfbakery:

Power generation was discussed in a 2004 blast from the past with scad mientist's "Parking Lot Solar Farms". In what could be described as a rare moment of general consensus, the necessity of diversity of power generation was agreed to by most commenters with the pros and cons of various power generation systems being discussed by neutrinos shadow, Voice, doctorremulac3, pertinax, scad mintiest, xandram, a1 and bs0u0155. It also topped this week's "Zombie Post Of The Week" (where a HB idea from years past is resurrected) with an incredible 30 new annotations and 10 new links.

Several alternate methods of grinding coffee were suggested, "Coffee Cutter" by a1, "Coffee Whacker" by 21 Quest, "Coffee Whacker II" by Voice, continuing last weeks run of coffee grinder ideas: "Coffee Crusher" by bs0u0155 and "Silent Coffee Grinder" by doctorremulac3.

A distant second in the "Zombie Post" catebory was doctorremulac3's heavily boned "iPhone", a somewhat suspicious assertion that the iPhone was actually invented years before Steve Jobs started selling them, the only difference being it could be worn as a hat. Raised from the dead to garner a whopping 13 new annos and 2 new links.

Most bunned new idea of the week was a1's "Transparent Aluminum Frying Pan" with a 5 to 1 bun to bone ratio.

Also this week, the most innovative idea was "Halfbakery this week" which gave an overview of the most interesting HB events etc. of the week. The idea itself outlined the kind of idea it was, while the first annotation (by the idea creator) summarised the ideas that had been posted or annotated during the previous seven days. Curiously, though, the details of the posting of this idea was not mentioned in any of the idea itself or the first annotation. The second annotation attempted to rectify this omission, starting by describing the idea itself, and then moving on to describe the annotation. Its description of the first annotation was fairly successful, but its description of the second annotation started to become a little recursive, describing itself in an ever more self-referential way. It ended up by describing its own description of itself, and then it tried to describe its description of its description of itself. The real danger of destroying the halfbakery in a recursive loop was narrowly avoided by describing the possibility of destroying the halfbakery in a recursive self-referential loop of describing itself describing how

When it churns, Halfbakers of 2035 will note how 'Bakers enthusiastically contributed for half a month, then a few days less than 6 months later, then 4.499... years after that, then after a third of a year under 10 years.

I was wondering if people here say the *er* in bakery? My question of the week.

In my american way of blurring English into something recognizable from the 3 states in which I have lived …I lazily pronounce halfbakry.

Seemed fitting enough for this week. But being. Sunday, is it this week or next week?
-- xandram, Feb 20 2022

You mean you mention this place to other people? Is that permitted?

I refer to it as "the stupid ideas website"

But yes I would say "err"
-- pocmloc, Feb 20 2022

//I refer to it as "the stupid ideas website"//

They're not ALL stupid. Umm..

Yea okay, they're all stupid. But at least they're... uhh... Let me get back to you.
-- doctorremulac3, Feb 20 2022

So I say bakery correctly. I quess it’s just spelled wrong. haha linky

Please don’t fight gentlemen. I donated a bun because we have a place to talk about things.
-- xandram, Feb 20 2022

Thank you Xan, terse remarks cheerfully removed.
-- doctorremulac3, Feb 20 2022

I refer to the place as hb.
-- po, Feb 21 2022

HB, hb, Halfbakery, hiffidy biffidy, they all work.
-- doctorremulac3, Feb 21 2022

I see the Baker's Half-Dozen lasted all of 3 weeks. [Sgt Teacup] you are wildly optomistic. It looks like this might struggle to stay alive to its second week the way things are going round here.
-- pocmloc, Feb 21 2022

Yea, maybe. Although the "Days Since Hitler Was Mentioned Here" lasted a few months, not a horrible run. 8th of 7 enjoyed updating that. Maybe I'll incorporate that as one of the news categories.

There's this great thing called the filter. It can do amazing things, such as hide postings by people that you wish to ignore, or who wish to be ignored by you. I had some people filtered for years. When they posted something, I never saw it, never commented on it, it was great.

Okay, tune in next Sunday for the week in review at HALFBAKERY THIS WEEK. All the news about the Halfbakery that's fit to print. (or not)

Be sure to check out our new feature: "Top Zombie Posts Of The Week" where Half-baked ideas from years past are resurrected, given a going over, celebrated or raked over the coals again.

See you next Sunday, have a great week!

As historically tragic events unfolded in Europe with Russia seeing that they were overdue for another world war, Halfbakers did the best they could to keep up a brave face by fighting about which former TV star might be blamed for not adequately preventing the coming apocalypse, the current president of the Ukraine or the former president of the US. Good arguments were made on all sides and after spirited, insightful and civilized debate, everybody decided to hug it out.

Top idea of the week was 2 fries shy of a happy meal's "Sand Castle" utilizing a re-occuring liquid sand feature that had fallen short on other proposed applications but found a home in a playground where the sand is made to look and act like lava.

Top zombie post was the until now underappreciated "Funeral Barbie", a 2004 post by zigness featuring Barbie with all the tasteful accessories she's wear on her emaciated, young girl ego destroying body, to finally bury Ken for always having that stupid grin on his face. 8 new annos celebrated this lost classic.

That's it for this week. Solidarity to our Ukrainian heroes for bravely standing up to our time's modern Hitler, Vladimir Putin.

Strength and honor brave warriors for freedom, may glorious victory be your reward.

I have spent 7 months in Ukraine over the years. There was very little evidence that the man on the street thought much about politics, No matter how much anyone might try to blame the (current) president of Ukraine, nothing justifies this level of invasion.
-- 4and20, Feb 27 2022

Thank you 4, I'm aware. Just a joke.
-- doctorremulac3, Feb 27 2022

[doc], I honestly admire your relative patience with someone who once went for the throat. Nevertheless, I've been relatively careful to avoid making it personal since then.
