Halfbakery: Criticism
RIT(F)W(A)   (+3, -2)  [vote for, against]
Deja Vu - in spades

A suggested addition to the HB meta help file, used for tagging ideas.

WIBNI already exists, as do its derivatives and variants.

RITW stands for RE-Inventing The Wheel, with its concomitant sub-category RITFWA! : Re-Inventing The F****** Wheel, AGAIN !

Expected to appear in conjunction with a number of links to Prior Art (within or without the HB) and the dreaded MFD.

Like Hell, only it rains more. [8th of 7, Aug 04 2008]

This is usually spelled "widely known to exist", no?
-- jutta, Jul 29 2008

we told 7th that and he departed in a hissy fit.
-- po, Jul 29 2008

I guess that means that this idea has been collectively marked "RITFWA".
-- jurist, Jul 30 2008

// widely known to exist //

Not quite. "widely known to exist" covers items which, well, are "widely known to exist".

RITW refers to ideas that may be extant (ring planets, jetstream windmills, et al) which appear quite frequently on the HB but do not "exist" as such.
-- 8th of 7, Jul 30 2008

So, widely known to exist in the halfbakery?
-- Ling, Jul 30 2008

Or 'redundant'?
-- theleopard, Jul 30 2008

redundant - a very similar invention already exists on the halfbakery. Any invention involving back windows of cars and LEDs spelling out messages is likely to earn this tag. Other frequently posted inventions include: gyms that produce electricity talking "rumble strips" by the side of the highway a spike sticking out of a steering wheel a machine for recording your dreams a halfbakery "worst" list
-- theleopard, Jul 30 2008

I would like it if RITW referred to ideas that weren't exactly redundant, because a different color of custard was used, but were so close that all they really did was clutter the site with semi derivative, more poorly written versions of ideas that were written in 2000.

RITW is less harsh that redundant, but it still may lead to deletion.

Who are we to say the wheel is the pinnacle of wheelvolution anyway? It is merely one branch of a multitude of wheel-like phenotypes - those which happen to occupy the rotational load-bearing niche within the current transportational landspace.

All right then! You tell us what colour it should be!
-- gnomethang, Jul 30 2008

Some of the above falls under the heading of "preheated", as referenced on my user page.
-- normzone, Jul 30 2008

[boysparks] and [daseva] between them have pretty concisely re-stated what the idea is.

RITW is more subtle than either "redundant" or "widely known to exist" ("widely known to have been thought of" is just about right), and yes, it's meant to suggest the idea should be removed.

[zen-tom], you're spending too much time with the Sales and MArketing people.

// YDRWYSIBISISACRE //

You can't use that, it's a place in Wales.
-- 8th of 7, Aug 01 2008

That's YDRWYSIBISESACRE, you ignorant fool. YDRWYSIBISISACRE means "Miserable rain-soaked grey little place in the middle of nowhere, created specially to separate English tourists from their money by conning them into buying overpriced fudge and hand made love spoons (hand made in China)".

Pronounced "Aberystwyth" <link>

This Idea Has Been Baked, Rebaked, And Rebaked Again All Over The Halfbakery And It Is Strongly Recomended That You Remove It At Once At The Penalty Of Ridicule And Massive Boning. )TIHBBRARAAOTHBAISRTY RIAOATPORAMB Acronyms are fun!

NTWAGO - No Thanks, We A'ready Got One.

(Am I the only one who can see the over-arching irony in holding this discussion on this idea?)

//Sales and Marketing people// Oh. My. God.

You are right of course.

I spent the other week being cajoled into adopting entirely new contextual word emplacements. Instead of "selling stuff to clients", we now, apparently, operate "within a space", although sometimes, it's more of a "sphere" - and in one instance, a "footprint".

I was relieved to hear however, that we are still allowed to adopt the phrase "going forward", going forward.

On reflection, it is notable that I resigned the following week. A coincidence perchance?
