What I meant was, the paving slabs are wired up to the batteries, not the shoes! Everyone contributes to the city's power supply just by strolling round the shops. The slabs could be pre-cast with coils inside, with two protruding plugs which connect to the next slab along and so on. They could be connected to a distribution hub every now and again. I just dont know how to calculate what power would be generated by the magnets in the shoes passing over the coils.
