Many lottery consortiums fund charities and community programs.

Altruistic Lottery Tickets are sold alongside their ccommercial brethren in the same draw.

Pay your money and get your Charity Ticket, which serves as the receipt for your deductible donation. Write off the money on your income tax.

Write the name of the charity you wish to benefit on the ticket slip you hand to the cashier.

If the ticket wins, the winnings go to the charity you nominated.

Only legally-registered charities can benefit from this.

Why not cut out the middle-man and give your money directly to charity? They'll get more.

// lottery tickets could be used for voting //

       Er, what's the difference ?

Oh, wait. If you buy a lottery ticket, your life might improve. The chance is small, but it's there.

Plagiaristic Borg [edit: okay: "lazy"], I *thought* those sentences sounded familiar.

If you win then donate the winnings you will need to pay tax on the incomne; there is a cap to home much donation you can deduct.

I wonder if you give the winning ticket to a representative of the charity if you can dodge the tax bullet?
