Hah! I had a little talk with some yr 3 & 4 students a fortnight ago, about guinea pigs. They were terribly impressed to hear about a guinea pig that weighed in at half of a small car. |

Yes, it´s a shame they aren´t still around. Glyptodonts had a similarly unfortunate demise (giant armadillos!), and the giant sloth was entertainingly bulletproof. |

We lost a few big critters just 10,000yrs ago. Predatory possums the size of lions; goannas 17-20 feet long; wombats as big as cows; carnivorous kangaroos that were bigger than polar bears... in fact, it seems like a good thing when you think about it. |
