Here in Australia, we have a charity called "guide dogs australia" that train and supply seeing eye dogs for the vision impared. They have fibre glass life size dog donation boxes all around the place.

Any time you donate more than $2 to a charity in Australia, you can claim it as a tax deduction.

However what i would like to see, is these un-manned dogs detect the demonination inserted in to its cranium and spit a receipt out its mouth.

Charity boxes in the UK used to have little action components - put the coin in the lifeboat, it would slide down the ramp and deposit it in the box, etc.

But it sounds like what you want are receipts, not such a bad idea. Even better if they took credit cards, allowing you to swipe in a donation (except I think someone suggested that already).
