Bear with me, this could take some explaining, and maybe a
diagram, but here goes....
My idea is to solve the whole problem of wastebins in the
kitchen and emptying them.
Built into the kitchen wall at worktop level is a hole (with
cover - cat-flap style) which accomodates all garbage. The
rubbish
it taken through a shute into a cylindrical container
housed outdoors which is fitted with a hydraulic press to
compress the rubbish. The cylindrical container is mounted
on wheels to easily be moved for collection. If you create
more than one container of rubbish in a week - no problem,
the deluxe model is enhanced by a shrink wrap mechanism,
offering extra bags - which also have extremely inexpensive
wheels attached. Can be purchased by packs of 5.
My twin brother "atomic point dexter" thinks this idea
'stinks',
but what the hey! - my Mum loves it.

Have the device haul the garbage to the curb and you can have my croissant, though I'd rather have something like [UnaBubba]'s Animal® garbage disposal system. |

I would love a Garbage -o-way, maybe you could have four
shoots for recycling, one for rubbish, one for glass (wine
bottles) and one for paper and one for tins (beer) or bean
tins - or the GOW could differentiate between them?

Largely Baked - this is pretty much how how garbage disposal chutes in apartment buildings work. (Usually the chute is in a closet down the hall, mostly for pest control.) |

phoenix - looked for UnaBubba's "animal garbage disposal
system but couldn't find it - have you got a link please.
Thanks ... gizmo, cheers |

This could be a UK idea as we don't have anything like this
at all. Lots of smelly bins in the kitchen and major
garbage bags to carry out once a week for the "bin men" |
|
|
So how do you clean the chute? Sounds like a cockroach superhighway onto your countertop, paved with a salmonella slime, if you ask me. |

I'm with Guncrazy. You're going to put the entrance to your rubbish bin in the middle of a food preparation counter? Old food will splash around the bin area, bacteria (and odour) will creep up, and more than likely wiping it will spread the germs rather than remove them. Most kitchens are a hive of microbes as it is. (see my link.) |

I'm also slightly concerned by the "cat flap" aspect. Bye bye pussy, go play with the fish-heads. |
