My idea is to have a hose that cuts through walls so fire
fighters can put out the fire more effectively. Spiked rotating
nozzels drill holes into the wall without allowing oxegen in.
Thus spraying foam/water that would put out the fire.
One possible Hose Grinder configuration
http://bz.pair.com/fun/hose_grinder.html Updated, adding hydraulics to power the cutting head. [gizmo] I hope it's okay that I added this drawing. [bristolz, Apr 07 2002, last modified Oct 21 2004]

Water blasting is baked. Adding grit to it allows it to cut faster, but it would still need some sort of mechanical assistance to get through some of the stronger building materials. |
|
| |
Firemen currently use chainsaws and gas-powered rotary saws to go through roller doors and metal sheeting. You're on the right track though. |
|
| |
If it is able to plug the space while at the same time cutting - it prevents the fire from getting more oxygen. |

thanks bris, great drawing, I knew it would have been
hard explain without a picture. |
|

.... and the water pressure can be made to
provide the grinding power, so that the
firefighters no longer have to carry gas
tanks(!) into a fire... |

Many thanks again bris, it's brilliant. Thank you. |

[bristolz] I love the addition of 'hydraulic lines' to the water hose! |

I was imagining a nylon stocking submarine sandwich. |

Without allowing oxygen in? Not sure that's possible. The wall material itself, as it is being drilled, will crack and crumble around the cut edge. Even with the 'seal', it would be very difficult. |
|
| |
And also, the fire fighter would not be able to see where to direct the water flow. |

Spectacular illustration! |

The idea of being able to remotely quench a fire by jetting it out THROUGH the wall would be an attraction, if the water spray was not extreme even occupants of the room might survive.. so long as it was not a magnesium strip packing plant! |

First read this as horse grinder; yuck! |

A device that does this is currently being tested by Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service [link] |
