Ladder Snow Boarding
A little ladder attached to a snow board that you climb as high as possible as you ski downhill
The rider would see which rung they could get to before
they wiped out. A new level of challenge to the boring
old sport of skiing.
You'd be scored by height x time upright. The ladder
be about 6" wide and, ummmm... ten feet tall.
I think it would be tilted very slightly forward so
climbed up you'd lean back to maintain your center of
gravity. You'd steer just as you would with a regular snow
board only with the exaggerated movement afforded by
the ladder being used as a steering mechanism. Tilt it
left or right to turn, push it forward to go faster, pull it
backwards to slow down.
It wouldn't be easy to be sure, but it would certainly be
something to watch.
No snow board, but think of the possibilities of a snow board! [Vernon, Nov 18 2015]
You have got to be kidding me!
Not the exact idea, since you couldn't steer this but it's actually sort of been done! [doctorremulac3, Nov 18 2015]

||This is highly likely to seriously injure, if not kill, any snowboarder who tries it. [+]
||I don't think you'd be able to steer at all going down hill, given such a high center of gravity.
||On the other hand, I wonder how such a device would fare going down a slalom course. If you made the ladder long enough, then the rider's person could follow a rather straight arc down the mountain while his thirty-foot apparatus carves giant serpentine patterns in the snow.
||I bet it would take a lot of core-muscle strength, though.
||Well, the higher you went the more exaggerated your
steering movements would have to be. At ground level
you'd just move an inch or two where at 10 feet up you'd
have to swing the ladder 4 feet in that direction to get
the same effect.
||You know, you paint an interesting picture with the
slalom idea. You could also give points to how low you got
to the ground on a turn. Theoretically, if you're going fast
enough you could bend the ladder almost horizontally,
low enough to touch the snow, which could be the
ultimate "Ladder Board" (tm all rights reserved) trick.
||This was just a bleary eyed, morning pre-coffee idea that
actually sounds pretty interesting.
||After you face-plant, they'll be crumpled-stilt-skis.
||Unbelievable! Somebody sort of did this.
||My idea is for one you can steer though so I'm gonna leave it
up. These idiots just put a ladder on some snowboards and
went downhill until they wiped out.
||I guess I should change the name to "STEERABLE" snow
