I was struck by this sentence on the mensa.org site:
"There are Mensans on welfare and Mensans who are millionaires."
Mensans on welfare? While I would not advocate a Soviet style human resource allocation system where one might be tested for abilities and pushed into fields regardless of
want or desire, it seems that this is a bit much, at a time that there are plenty of gainfully employeed idiots.
Sponsored by contributions from the the millionaire Mensans and from those who can't pass the tests but secretely yearn for Mensa's stamp of approval (perhaps we can get those cool mailing labels that come with other charitable contributions), the Mensaid Society will seek to leave no genius behind.

If you want to test yourselves against Americans than there is a program on the FOX network tonight, May 5th, that will allow you to do that. Tonight at 8pm Eastern, 7pm Central Time (American), the Fox network will run a two-hour program called 'Test The Nation 2'. This is based on a popular program by the same name that has aired in Britian over the past few years. |

For warm-ups you might try the linked National 2003 IQ test on the BBC site. BBC apparently sponsors the British version of the show. I’ll wager we will not see any 140 scores on this test! Each of the questions are timed and must be answered in about 10 - 15 seconds. There are 70 total questions. This is not your typical on-line IQ test – and with some questions, it helps to be British. |

Just as the ability to score well on an IQ test has no direct correlation to real intelligence, neither does membership in Mensa correlate to the desire, ability, or worthiness to attain or maintain wealth. |

Instead, how about merit-based grants for members' noncommercial, pure science research projects (ref. the Daughters of the Daily Special in Tom Robbins' book "Jitterbug Perfume"). |
