Table and steaks knives that are miniature scale replicas of japanese warrior swords (like in Kill Bill).

They come complete with scabbards and a rack holder that sits on the middle of the table.

Miniature Samurai Sword http://www.shambhal...61&products_id=1222
I guess this could be used as a steak knife if you desired. [jurist, Oct 21 2004]

We know where you've been hanging out. http://www.realultimatepower.net
Ah, yes, 'miniature scale replicas of japanese warrior swords' [contracts, Oct 21 2004]

Don't use them at the kid's table!

[UB], after years of fascination with Japanese culture, finally bites the bullet. Selecting his favourite Katana-style steak knife, he swiftly beheads and disembowels a chicken then prepares is sushi-style.

<Later> [UB], unaccustomed to eating raw chicken, spends a week in hospital, recuperating from the worst stomach upset he's ever had. He goes on to write a book about the experience and the 70lb he lost, as a result.

At most these would do 1D4 worth of damage to an opponent, not taking into account any bonuses you may have.

       Don't fencers use epees?

bristolz, Oct 21 2004

[sartep] I wouldn't bring up any die other than the six sided if you want your claim of being from another planet to remain credible.

Did I ever mention my double proficiency in spork fencing?

       this idea is cool

Yes. Also Foil and Sabre.

The scabbard of a Japanese sword, either Katana or Wakizashi, is called a Saya, by the way.

The Tsuka (hilt) of a Katana is usually about 12 inches long, with the blade between 24 and 34 inches.

I'm not fanatical about these things but I do like to see the facts laid out. There is an awful lot of bullshit about Japanese weapons, especially swords, particularly on the internet. They are really no more or less dangerous than any European bladed weapons. The danger comes from the skill of the user.

I *really* hate the kitsch display stands and fake swords (usually made from aluminium) that you seem to see in every camping store and knife shop.

UnaBubba, Oct 21 2004

Ah, but the japanese warrior would be able to somersault right over the head of your earth-bound european fighter, and cut off his head from behind.

//I wouldn't bring up any die other than the six sided if you want your claim of being from another planet to remain credible.//

So what are the odds of every other world using only marked cubes for their gameplay?

sartep, Oct 21 2004

[sartep] That isn't what I meant, you silly ET.

Haven't seen you online lately.

jscottpete, Oct 23 2004

The true warrior needs no sword-knife, being able to destroy his opponent with a teaspoon. Leaving no blood.

wagster, Oct 24 2004

Japanese swords were much better folded than European swords so were a bit sharper and stronger but European swords caught up as the technology stagnated in Japan. Just to be picky there [UnaBubba]. Fencing also uses Rapiers, don't forget them! Samurai swordplay never involved magical somersaulting leaps [egbert], sorry. Ninjas didn't in fact use long swords as they were too hard to conceal.

What's the point in this idea? This would only be cool if you're a prepubescent boy.

I don't think this idea is the same as, or an echo of, the idea [dentworth] links to. (Vetoing the m-f-d.)

//Samurai swordplay never involved magical somersaulting leaps //.

You can't fool me. I've seen it on telly.

egbert, Nov 03 2004

       I understand your point, [htj].

The different methods used by occidental and oriental swordsmen, and the different qualities of the steel used, make no difference when a sword passes through you, I imagine.

UnaBubba, Nov 03 2004

The term fencing refers to any systemized method of offense and defense with a sword, wether it be of European origin or not, obvious popularly this has come to be recognised as the sport using foils, epees and sabres.

Personally I'd like super long disposable razor blades, kinda like a cut-throat razor to cut my steaks 'cause I'm lazy and even if the steak is as tender as a subs derrier it's still too tedious having to cut thru it.

       Or learning to spell it?
