I'm not sure I want experiments as an explicit category in the halfbakery - that's kind of at an angle to all the rest of the stuff here, much of which is kind of experimental by nature. |

If there was a category for experiments then I know one I'd suggest someone run. It would require a scale with something on it hung a few feet in the air and an electron beam focused on the ground beneath it. If the beam came out of an accelerator faster than a stream of electrons normally travelled, would that lower the weight of whatever you put on the scale? |

Also, it would fill up with methods for floating cats, and getting energy from potatoes. |

If you're creative enough you can disguise an experiment as a toy / product / sport etc. |

wagster - I suppose the experiment I suggested could be disguised as a novel propulsion system - the beam, i.e. the engine, wouldn't have any physical connection to the rocket (the scale) so we would be able to put much heavier payloads into space since they wouldn't have to carry their own fuel... Feels a little bit like cheating though since I really only want to know if a downard facing beam effects the weight of something above it. |
