The summary pretty much sums it up. The coaster is equipped with small microphones and a built-in computer system that measures decibel level from the passengers, and adjusts the speed accordingly. Might bring in an interesting rider-participation factor into your average roller coaster ride. Not to be confused with...

Yes. Bun. Easily implemented, highly marketable, and totally in tune with the whole ethos of the rollercoaster ride. |
|
| |
I mis-read this as 'scram-o-treon'. |
|
| |
I'm not riding this thing with my daughter. Bun from her, not me. |
|
| |
Baconbrain, you can only ride in this ride if you are at least this high (points to height sign). Please do not ride the Scream-o-Tron if you are pregnant or have a heart condition, or high blood pressure. |
|
| |
Hm, now that I think about it, it might be difficult to separate the loudness generated by the passengers from the loudness of the ride itself. Any suggestions? |
|
| |
Might this not create a positive feedback loop? Involuntary screams of terror provoke even more extreme roller-coastering? Oh well.. serves em right for getting on in the first place.. + |
|
| |
[iron_horse] this is EXACTLY the idea. But then, there IS a certain finite limit on how loud a person can scream... Maybe they should be encouraged to carry loudspeakers and air horns. |
|
| |
Why not monitor heart rate, blood pressure and other indicators for signs of stress? A truly terrifying ride would correlate these measurements with its behaviour. |
|
| |
Ah, but [Denholm], that'd take a rather long time to rig up all that monitoring equipment! It'd make the line even longer! |
|
| |
(though it'd be good to have it there just in case someone gets a heart attack...) |
|
| |
Design your coaster cars with a few extra axles. If the passengers seem excitable enough, have it shed a wheel or two while going up a loop... |
|
| |
// if you are pregnant or have a heart condition, or high blood pressure. // |
|
| |
Will the system include a tilting section of track at the end so that the stiffening corpses can be neatly tipped out into a convenient skip ? |

I think if i were riding it, it would get
exponentially faster. The faster/more
extreme the ride, the more i scream, the
more i hate it, the more i want to get off,
the more i curse the creators of this
damned piece of equipment, the more i
scream, the faster i go, the more i want to
choke someone, then i will be traumatized
and never ride a roller coaster ever again. |
|
| |
[crazyrog], the machine measures only loudness, not gross amount of screaming! How many decibels can YOU get to? |
|
| |
Brilliant, if you ask me...NOW GET THE HELLLLLLL AWAY FROMMMMMMMMM ME. |
|
| |
Like it [+]. You'd need to take the coast out of rollercoaster to get it to work. |
|
| |
ho-hum. why isn't this thing moving yet? |
