Stroboscopic Shot Through the Head Gag

Update to an old novelty

Have you ever seen the novelty item consisting of an arrow in two parts connected by a headband? It’s supposed to make you look as though you’ve been shot through the head. Clever, but I think it looks a little fake. This is the 21st Century! Does anyone still use arrows?

For greater verisimilitude I propose an update to the classic gag based on a photograph by Harold Edgerton (see link). The stop-motion picture depicts an apple being shot with a bullet.

In the wearable 3D version, the apple is replaced with your head, the realistic-looking splatters of fresh apple sauce (one entry, one exit) are attached to the sides of your head, and the departing bullet is suspended by a nearly-invisible wire.

[phoenix] Potential Hallowe'en costume - a Derren Brown copycat gone horribly wrong.

So at a neighbor's door, you're given an apple made to look like it's been penetrated by a razor blade.

I can just imagine Tommy Cooper wearing one of these. I like.

Is that applesauce, coming out the left side?

Or is it happy to see you?

I presumed that this was a trick hat containing a strobe light. Your assistant would shoot you through the head, and (if his timing was pretty sharp) the audience would see the bullet approaching your head, then flying out the other side, but _never_actually_passing_ through_your_head. How cool would that be?

       Especially effective with a machine-gun.

       How did I miss this?

(Did a little update to replace the dead links.)

Could never understand why the old five half Indian arrows protruding from a car rear window trick never took off the same as the fake bullet holes did. Then there is always the chance to repopularize fluffy dice with an arrow protruding from it dripping blood.
