A pranky idea rather than an invention.

I've done this several times and it's great fun and astounding when it works. Always works well outside the Tate Modern gallery. When you see tourists with cameras, stroll up arm in arm with your loved one and use hand gestures to indicate that you want them to take your photo. They will (in my experience) look around to where you might be offering them a camera but you just keeping making the 'photo, us, you take' gestures and point at their camera. Given enough bravado on your part they then actually take a photo of the two of you. You thank them and walk away chuckling as they try to work out what just happened.

Try it. It's quite uplifting. You also reside content in the knowledge that they will be explaining the 'photo' episode as they go through their pictures back home.

p.s.(sorry, can't work out annotation device)I've tried variants, one bunch did offer to e mail me digital photos, had to mumble in a made up language and run off giggling. I happen to live next to the Old Bailey and it's always on an O.B for the sixpm news. I may get a wrist TV and watch until they say "and now we go live to..." and then walk past in background with signs. My writing partner does this already, he works for a TV show and puts up spurious stuff in the background. Wednesday was "Locke", thursday was "Hume". Beautifull. No-one any the wiser.

Other fun manipulating tourists - look for 'outdoor activities' photos. [weedy, Oct 17 2004]

Even more satisfying if you end up with their camera, of course.
