A small box that sits on top of your stove that has a built in fan and a sensor. When you put your spoon under it the fan automaticly blows on it , to cool it off. The deluxe model could have digital temperature settings or a counter for those watching their diet.

Whilst it doesn't say so, this appears to be for cooks like me who take a little taste now and then during cooking to determine whether seasonings are required, whether the dish is cooked, whether it's too late to save a dish from too much chili, etc. |

Checking whether pasta is al dente is dangerous when it's just emerged from boiling water! Testing whether jam has reached setting point is even more so... hot jam sticks like napalm. |

Personally, I just keep my tasting spoon in a jug of cold water. There are possibilities here, though, but I don't think you're thinking big enough. I'd prefer some modification to the actual spoon; perhaps a Peltier device embedded in the bowl? |

How about a double ended spoon with a highly miniturised heat pump in the handle. One end is a tasting spoon (or swizzle stick) the other a heated ice cream scoop (or branding iron). (adapt to taste) |
