Earth Rotational Counterbalancer   (+2)  [vote for, against]
Keep rotation steady, keep earthquakes at bay

It turns out that mild fluctuations in the Earth's rotation speed have an effect on earthquake strength, and the planet maybe going into a slight slowdown with potentially dire consequences (see link)

Clearly a strategy to counter balance these fluctuations need to be developed, perhaps using properly timed launches of thousands of heavy lifting rockets in proper locations, sending some excess mass into space.

Slower rotation increases earthquakes https://www.express...-scale-ring-of-fire

If we sped the Earth up enough we could change its shape to become more oblate and less spheroid. Eventually the continental plates would align creating an equatorial archipelago.

How about if everyone is required to own a hamster & all align their exercise wheel in the same direction?
-- Skewed, Nov 19 2017

Such alignment would mean that, in some localities, it would be more of a hamster wall of death. Excluding lemmings, this would have to addressed by a whole lot of worm gears at funny angles.

You don't need worm gears, you need hamster gears, shirley ? Training any sort of worm to run round in a wheel is going to be a considerable challenge. The lack of limbs is going to be a major issue for a start ...

I'm not sure if that was meant as a searing indictment of the 20th century or if you really mean it, either way I like it :)

At least it’s still better than Nickelback.
