Translucent Pumpkin   (+5)  [vote for, against]
In the spirit of open source

This is a Jack-O-Lantern with no representational marks, so that the only content is the shadow cast by the structure of the pumpkin itself.

Scrape a pumpkin out from the inside so that the whole thing is translucent. The only structure you can see is that of the pumpkin itself -- like an actual pumpkin skeleton. So I have baked this and it actually just looks messy now, although it is translucent, but I am going to have to be really careful about gently evening it out without going through the rind, so that the crenellations of the pumpkin are the only structures casting a shadow, and not the variances in where I have scraped close or not close to the rind.

On the way doing the scraping I noticed that a couple of millimeters from the surface of the pumpkin, there are dark green veins that come down from the stem. If you were really really careful you could stop scraping from the inside right before you get to the veins and the gently take away the entire surface of the pumpkin so that the pumpkin would be translucent with veins.

The caterpillar of the Hazel Tussock (a moth) eats the flesh of pumpkins and gourds, but avoids the outer part of the skin, which contains bitter and slightly toxic chemicals.

Therefore, you could consider placing a Hazel Tussock caterpillar in your pumpkin and waiting.

^ That's so cool. ^

I like this. It might even dry out quickly enough to go leathery and keep it's shape.

I wonder if one could soak a pumpkin in an aquarium of fluid such that the orange would break down and it would become translucent? A tank full of these would be scary!

Maybe there was a tank full of zombie heads somewhere recently. Probably Walking Dead or WWz. I glimpse these fearful things sideways only.
