Amplified Trampoline

Actively senses your jump motion and adds a motorized push to it.

Likewise, senses you coming down and cushions your fall by actively releasing tension.

Jump like you're on the moon, or higher depending on the setting.

Sort of a motorized version of that thing where everybody holds a blanket and throws people in the air but mechanized and controlled by the jumper's motions.

Call it the "Ampoline" or as suggested by hippo, "Tramplifier"

Baby Godzilla. http://www.google.c...JoaeOqiXxZQK&zoom=1

Here it is only using humans instead of motors or pneumatics. https://www.youtube.../shorts/1XSUoFK3y38
Works pretty good. [doctorremulac3, May 04 2022]

This is excellent. Sort of like having someone pushing you on a swing? I assume that it would just give a modest additional nudge at each bounce?
MaxwellBuchanan, May 18 2012

Yea, same thing, but it'd be progressive like getting pushed on a swing by Godzilla after first getting pushed by Godzilla Jr. (See link) Initial bounces would be smallish, subsequent jumps would get higher. Once you really got going though it would be throwing you up several stories high. Theoretically you could get even higher than that depending on how big the thing was. Remember, when you fall back down it actively catches you gently bringing you to a stop. It would need quite of bit of room under it to give room to slow you down.

You'd need some sophisticated sensors and digital control mechanisms to calculate how fast to flex / relax the trampoline but nothing Nasa couldn't whip up with a little funding.

They're not doing anything anyway these days.
doctorremulac3, May 18 2012

Probably don't want to soften the landings as that would sap energy from the next bounce. Otherwise, I like it.
MechE, May 18 2012

Or there could be the low tech version that just works in a pre programmed fashion to throw you up higer and higher. If it gets out of sync though, ouch.

Naa, not as much fun as feeling like you're jumping 6 stories high.

It would be like a game. If you fell wrong and didn't get your rebound just right you'd have to start all over again. This amplifies your jumps but your jumps would still have to be done right.

I was going to suggest the name Tramplification, but it just makes me think of Mtv.

       Tramplification's a good name.
Phrontistery, May 19 2012

Could get dangerous - ie boing, boing, boing, boing,.....ooops Boeing!

Food for thought. In this case one of my very hard to earn croissants.

       Clever idea. How about "Tramplifier"?
hippo, May 19 2012

We used to do this at camp when we were very small with a large bedsheet. That was before each day of my life was marked for deletion for redundacy.
rcarty, May 19 2012

I read 2 fries' "Tramplification" thought, "How about tramplifier? Got all excited then read 3 post down and saw hippo beat me to it. Tramplifier is very clever and would be the name of the product if this were ever built.

They do something a little like this where they put ropes around you and pull you up after you jump on a trampoline. I've seen these at carnivals and such. Strikes me a cheating though and it's not something I'd care to try. The tramplifier though? Definately worth a fiver to try out.

Just thought of another incarnation of this that might be interesting and not need the sophisticated electronics. Have one of those blow up house mats with a piston on the side. The piston slides against a weight when you jump on the thing. The weight goes up, then gravity pulls it down (it counter-bounces) and pushes air back into the thing with greater force and in sync with the jumper because the harder you push the weighted piston, the longer it takes to return. It's return cycle has greater force because of leverage... ok, this makes no sense without drawing it and I've gotta run. (It might not make sense after drawing it either frankly.)

Re: Godzuki link. I can see the writers sitting around the table in 1966.

"Guys, this Godzilla cartoon doesn't suck enough. Any ideas how we can really reach new depths of craptacularocity on this cartoon series?"
doctorremulac3, May 19 2012

Wheee, I like this idea. +
blissmiss, May 19 2012

I wonder if it could be harnessed to recover energy to supplement home usage.
Alterother, May 19 2012

Came across an example of this being done manually with guys around the edge of the trampoline. Works pretty well. (linky)

I would do this for the RayfordSteele juniors all the time. Fairly simple to time.
RayfordSteele, May 04 2022

Theoretically, THEORETICALLY, you could launch somebody thousands of feet in the air with a properly designed system.

Hey, I had this stupid device when I was a kid! I think they called it a dad
