Ear Wigs
"No, I'm not a natural blonde." | |
"Fashions change", said the old, grey-haired gentleman.
I had seen him before. He was often on the same 8:14 bus that I took to work.
"Time was", he went on, "everyone wore sensible hats with broad brims and your ears were protected from the ravages of the sun, wind and rain."
"Nowadays, baseball
caps reign supreme. Everyone wears 'em, with their jug handles stickin' out."
"Sunburn, biting cold, windburn, skin cancer... ears never had it so rough"
I murmured sympathetically, glancing up at him. There, nestled beneath the brim of his fedora, were two matching tufts of the same steel grey hair that adorned his pate.
"Ok, so he's got hairy ears", I thought.
Then I looked again. Sure enough, he had three hairpieces on. Carefully made, to be sure, but he was wearing three wigs, including the two on his ears.
Idly, I wondered if there was a way to market them to the world. Maybe there was a buck to be made here? Who would model them for me? Prince Charles, perhaps?
[By the way, this idea came from my son, who is 4. I was trying to explain to him what earwigs are. He exclaimed, "I thought you meant that you wear wigs on your ears!" He then observed, "Your ears wouldn't have been sunburned yesterday, at golf, if you had wigs on them, Dad."
Kids' logic is sometimes astonishingly insightful.]

Kids are awesome. The other day my daughter told me how much fun it would be to be on a deserted island, because she could have as much cake and candy as she wanted. |
|
| |
And somehow it never occured to her that there wouldn't be any cakes/lollies, etc on a desert island? |
|
| |
Thinking of desert islands, I had to teach my 16 year old brother how to use a can opener, coz me and my mum had a joke that if he was stuck on a desert island with a can opener and several cans, he'd starve to death coz he doesn't know how to use a can opener... |

[froggy], I think [2fries]'s daughter thought a 'deserted' island was a 'desserted' island, with dessert everywhere. |

Ear wigs, that's brilliant, [Bubba]! And here I was thinking this was going to be about those ugly little insects I find a kill in my house at least once a day. |

I see Li'l Bubba made a typo. + |

An illustration would be nice here, I think. |

I'd like to see baseball caps with ear fenders. Not nearly as punny as this idea though. |
|
| |
Cars have bonnets with fenders. |

[bliss] I's all wore out after the earwax-guzzling bird pic. They could surely give some shade here, too. |
|
| |
Hmm, sounds rather cryptic, or did I miss an idea about someone guzzling some poor bird's earwax? |
|

Oh my...I need to stop working and sleeping. Thanks for the link and the "yep". But still, yuck. |

Thanks, [FJ]. I've picked up the pieces, and moved on. That's the problem with being confident that you never need to spellcheck. Sometimes you do. |
