Thank you for considering this idea for a bun and have a nice day.

I was going to get one for my cat; then I saw the price, so I didn't... [neutrinos_shadow, Jun 10 2018]

[+] for the dog door part.

Extra virtual bun if the "door" contains a guillotine mechanism which, on recognizing a cat, unlatches the door to supposedly admit its entry but then pulls the ol' Maximilian Robespierre trick on the dastardly feline.

Given the number of cat pics on the net and the easy ability to print off a pic of your pet, I’m concerned that the security could become compromised easily.

Do they have human facial recognition software for security doors?

       Bun anyway.

At least it isn't eye recognition.

I was sure this was baked, but I don't feel like looking for it.

Use a 3D camera like the iPhone X does. I don't remember for sure, but it might detect your pulse too.

       LOL.

       Wish I had said that.

If somebody did spoof the system they'd have to have a picture of the actual cat with matching fur markings which is possible, they just take a picture of the cat, but getting access to a house through a 10" x 8" door isn't going to do you much good unless you're a very small burglar.

That being said, this is only a half-joke, people spend a lot of money for stupid things for their pets these days.

You could even go fully insane and train the dog to bark when prompted and place their paw on the scanner for audio and pawprint scanning. At that point though you might want to consider getting professional help.

Most pets are chipped these days anyway so why not just use a chip reader?
Skewed, Jun 10 2018

They are? Dang, been a long time since I've had a pet. My dog had a collar and I had the same attitude about collars for cats that cats do.

       But yea, lot simpler.

I want the "unless there's a live animal in their mouth" option.
FlyingToaster, Jun 10 2018

Well, I don't really know that most are but the vets these days (well mine anyway) seem to to push chipping like McDonald's counter staff push chips ("would you like fries with that?") whenever you go in for something else, mine got done when I had his round furry bits chopped, a quick jab & it's done & compared to what I actually went in for practically free.

So I [assume] anyone who gets their animal its shots will have had it done.. & anyone who can't (or won't) afford to get their animal its shots is unlikely to be shelling out on fancy cat flaps anyway :)

Instead of buns, you should be thinking of money. There is LOTS and LOTS of money for the maker of this idea. It should be your database and your software, and let the hardware makers compete on making and selling it. Take a yearly fee of 1 USD for each pet in the database.

Go for it, I'll split the money with you.
doctorremulac3, Jun 11 2018

Can I get one of those chips for my son yet?
RayfordSteele, Jun 11 2018

You could always have you cat chipped, then do a little surgery.
MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 11 2018

       Yes.
