Two of the primary attributes of a display screen are:

1) Ability to produce a wide gamut of color

2) Ability to produce a wide intensity range of light levels

#1 has had much effort expended in attempts with good success.

#2 Efforts have been concentrated on increasing light intensity.

I propose a display composed of LEDs or other light-emitting devices coupled to fibers similar to Polarbear fur, but designed to absorb ambient light, so that a "blacker than black" image can be conveyed.

While polar bear fur has this effect and is fibrous, fibers aren't the best material for this.

Not if it's been detached from the octopus, it can't.

       That is a point...okay, chameleons?

I have had an idea on my list since around winter 2016/2017 (guessing based on my memories of coming up with nearby-listed ideas) that just says "Vantablack display". I've long since forgotten what idea I actually came up with, but I'm going to guess it was this one.

Therefore I can check that off my list: 57/375.

<off topic>Also, I've recently found that I had a duplicate idea on my list, which I've just deleted (prior to taking that count), so I'll have to go back and reduce the denominator by one on every idea I've posted with a progress count. (The duplicate idea was listed above where I started keeping track of my progress, and I confirmed it was introduced to the list before then by looking at old versions of the list.)</off topic>
