Noteworthy creators and annotators. Some aren't around anymore - either having shuffled off their mortal coil, or simply deleted their accounts.

Spaces and special characters stripped from user names. One really long username is ... split into two entries. If a name contains numbers but has an (R) after it, I converted numbers to Roman numerals - otherwise I spelled the numbers out. Any mistakes or omissions are my fault, but any inclusions or exclusions you don't like are your problem.

There are some words in the puzzle that are not in the list below. You'll know when you see them.

HB_20Word_20Search_202 [a1, Nov 28 2023]

[link]

       Somehow... without trying... I, in someway earned three dots to my moniker...

       ...

       Go figure.

       ...

       They are micro-dots. You can read their full text content if you use a powerful microscope
pocmloc, Nov 27 2023

       // microscope //

       Do you think it's too hard to read? I tried to make it so people could print it on 8.5/11 or A4 paper if they didn't want to do it on screen - but I worry the letters might be too small.

       It's a big boi... 47 by 53, I make it.
Loris, Nov 27 2023

       I was hoping for clues )-:
Voice, Nov 27 2023

       // hoping for clues //

       Sorry to disappoint. I think this one should be sufficiently difficult for a start - but given another year or two of deadlines to go whooshing past I might do one with clues instead of just a word list.

       Would you like some clues for the special items that aren't in the word list I provided?

       1. The original British halfbaker cartoonist
2. The original America halfbaker cartoonist
3. Another American cartoonist who was quite MAD

       Is that the sort of thing you had in mind?
a1, Nov 27 2023

       Yes, please
Voice, Nov 27 2023

       //a1's full nom de bakery//

       This has to be the clue I'm most interested in.

       ...And why is sctld optionally duplicated?
Loris, Nov 27 2023

       // a1's full nom de bakery //

       The firstname_lastname you would see on any emails from me. if I'm using the account I set up just for HB stuff.

       // why is sctld optionally duplicated? //

       Sloppy editing on my part, sorry (and fixed). The version with brackets & spaces is how they appear in HB's member directory; the spaces and brackets are NOT in the puzzle grid.
a1, Nov 27 2023

       So ... if I do another version of this, does anyone besides [Voice] want clues instead of a word list? I could probably knock out another version in less than a year now that I've had some practice.

       I could remake this puzzle and instead of giving the baker's names I'd offer one of each baker's idea titles as a clue, like this

       Clue: All-seeing monocle of fashion

       ... to solve it you'd have to look up the idea to see whose name you were supposed to find in the grid.

       That might only take a few days really, but I'd get distracted by reading all those oldies but goodies.
a1, Nov 27 2023

       Surprise! It took less time to do than it took to explain.

       New puzzle linked.
a1, Nov 28 2023

       I think [po] has most mentions in this wordsearch
hippo, Nov 28 2023

       // po has the most mentions //

       Yes, but there's a more surprising one. CALUM shows up unexpectedly, for their own entry and as a substring of doctorreMULAC...

       I purposely tried to make this word search difficult, by telling the generator to NOT put anything in horizontal left to right form. When I noticed CALUM in the grid it took me a few seconds to figure out why.

       I didn't apply the same restrictions to "HB Word Search 2" (link). It's smaller and hopefully more fun - and [hippo], you're in that one more times than anyone else.
a1, Nov 28 2023

       Excellent! I’ve found three “HIPPO”s so far…
hippo, Nov 28 2023

       I've found none - I think it could be a sophisticated hoax ... Or a problem with my attention span.
normzone, Nov 29 2023

       //I’ve found three “HIPPO”s so far//

       You're at the Escobar ranch?
pertinax, Nov 29 2023

       // sophisticated hoax //

       No - there are some mistakes I spotted after posting but it's no hoax.

       [normzone], you're in there. Do you want a hint, like what quadrant to look in and what direction? Sometimes just finding one triggers something in the mind to make others easier to spot.
