Miniature Buffalo (ala miniature horses) could easily become the great American pet.
Put a mini-baler (a subsequent halfbaked idea) on your lawn mower to feed it for free. Get the kids to mow the lawn by telling them it's part of having a pet!
Or put it on a leash and let it 'mow' the lawn (and fertilize
it!).
Their fur is highly insulating (they often have snow on their backs). But it's hard to harvest because of their size and strength. No problem with the mini's. buy one here

Uh-huh. Where should I get one? Just apply a little genetic modification, perhaps? |
| |
Just develop a buffalo porn industry, and sooner or later you'll have midget buffalo. |
| |
I think that anno might be almost racially offensive, [CG]. |
| |
Almost, but not quite. And valid none the less. |
| |
Sorry, couldn't help it. If you want it gone, just say so. |
| |
Can we stampede a bunch of them over the curb? |
| |
Just be careful how mini you make them, [lurch], or you could have your very own tiny version of Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. |
| |
Will we be able to make mini-Mozzarella... Oops, wrong type of buffalo. You actually mean Bison, don't you? |
| |
Make them 'OO' scale so they look good next to my train set. |
| |
I'm trying to think of the British equivalent? |
| |
Although, I was birthed up in Canada so a mini herd would be kinda cool. I'd just have to watch my step, I imagine they'd be kinda crunchy to the foot. |
| |
Hey, I could make buffalo toe socks. |
| |
Just imagine sitting back in a deck chair with a cool beer, watching the massive herds of mini-buffalo on their annual migration from one side of your garden to the other... |
| |
..the Jack Russell would love it. |
| |
Alternatively, you could just glue horns on hamsters. |
| |
Yes, but imagine the constant, tiny honking ..... |
| |
No, hamsters, they're the fluffy ones, you're probably thinking of geese. |
| |
Part of an animal's resistance to cold comes from its bulk. Shrink the buffalo down, and you may well lose its storied resilience along with its size. |
| |
Arrange them in series - the resistances add up. |
| |
// you're probably thinking of geese // |
| |
No, surely the horns on the hamsters would honk ? What other noise would they make ? Surely not hamster klaxons, that would be going too far .... |
| |
[8th of 7] Do you really think I didn't get what he was saying? |
| |
Anyway, it was a bad idea, I wouldn't want a stampeding herd of horny hamsters. |
| |
Wait. I thought mini buffalo already existed? I always get their wings at the bar. |
| |
They're not buffalo, strictly speaking. The Buffalo is the larval form, which then turns into a pupa, and then the winged form of this extraordinary creature hatches out, from which we get what are called "Buffalo wings". |
| |
Thanks for the information [hippo]. I didn't realize their life cycle was so complicated. And I live in Oklahoma. |
| |
More prosaically, buffalo wings come from Buffalo. I was very disappointed when I found that out. |
| |
Buffalo have wings ? Like flying monkeys ? EEeeeeeeewwww.... |
| |
//buffalo wings come from Buffalo.//
Well, they don't necessarily, but the serving style originated there. Like Hamburgers can come from anywhere. Or Cheddar cheese. |
| |
Hamburgers come from New Haven. Allegedly. |
| |
Next you'll be telling us hot dogs don't come from dogs! |
| |
And there's no Sanity Clause ..... |

French fries are a Belgian recipe, first offered as "French Fries" in the US. |

What you gon' do with all that junk? |
| |
All that junk inside that trunk? |
| |
I'ma get, get, get, get, you drunk, |
| |
On my great white mini buffalo hump. |

I shall call him Mini-taurus. |

The most fascinating thing about buffalo and other migratory cattle is their use of tornadoes to travel great distances. |
| |
I thought that they travelled via UFO traction beams. |
| |
Nope, they all cram into a single-seater single-engine WWII fighter aircraft, and off they go. |
| |
//Arrange them in series - the resistances add up// [marked-for-tagline] |
| |
What if this ends up starting an underground miniature buffalo fighting society? |
| |
I doubt they'd get hurt, they wouldn't have the momentum. It would be very funny to watch them rutting. |
| |
What are we using to light the tunnels, so we can watch the fights? |
| |
How many buffaloes can you fit in a mini? |
| |
1) You do not talk about Rut Club.
2) You do not talk about Rut Club. |

I've seen this. It's beautiful and terrifying at the same time. The buffs float blissfully, at least as blissfully as possible under the circumstances, while they chew their cuds and swat flies with their tails. You get the impression that they have no idea what's going on, yet there is clearly some pattern of organization at work. But damn, the mess they leave behind. |
| |
Clearly Mr. Winnebago was wrong when he thought structures of wood and aluminum might deter the buffalo and their swirling means of transport. |
