A regular fish tank that has motion sensors and object recognition capability. The sensors are hooked into a computer that tracks the different fish through the 3d environment, modifying the effects on their preselected sound.

For instance, the school of neon tetras could be represented as wind chimes, whereas the pop eyed goldfish would be a bass line. The lower in the tank, the lower on the scale the notes produced are. When they go to the left it produces a chorus effect, to the right a delay effect, or whatever is decided upon by the owner. I'm sure you get the idea.

There would be packaged soundfiles, as well as new files available for download or produce your own.

Has much in common with your idea. And it's a kickass track. [wagster, Nov 24 2007]

Yes, kinda like that. Might be hard to find a beat boxing blowfish though.

This could be more than just a fish theremin. The different fish could form a complex synthesizer, each being assigned to a certain parameter - eg: discus vco fm; Angelfish Decay*, etc
