Odometer for boats, Hour meter for cars

My boat has hour meters, but unless I keep a detailed log of GPS trips, I don't have a good notion as to what distance has been covered in those hours.

Conversely, my car has an odometer, but no hour meter.

I'd like to have both sets of information available for maintenance / cost measurements.

Probably to be made easy by GPS in a few years.

My car has an hour-meter (but we call it a clock). My boat doesn't exist.

if you drove the exact same speed ALWAYS you could use the odometer as an hour meter and the hour meter as an odometer. this is likely difficult to implement.
