clumsy for storage, but cute idea. |

Couldn't you just arrange the flip-up lid pf a flip phone to do this, rather than add a fold-out awning? |

But the real solution is to use a screen that sunlight doesn't render unreadable. There are a bunch on the market (the new cheap laptop for the African market uses them). |

I'm not a fan of the flip-tops, though I
know
they are more popular in the USA. This
also screens prying eyes from your
dubious text messages. I really like the
idea of a high-tech phone having a
1950's pram hood, complete with
chrome fittings etc. I would seriously
like this fitted to my own mobile. |

Ooo, I need one of these for my laptop. |

A cellphone manufacturer (I can't remember which) is currently experimenting with a new screen made of microscopic glass particles that reflects ambient light and is just as brilliant as existing backlit screens, and looks just as good in direct sunlight as it does in darkness. It still has a backlight for use in low-light conditions, but requires MUCH less battery power since it doesn't have to put out as much light due to the reflectivity of the screen. I read about it in Technology News on my phone's homepage. |

I'm not sure if this is such a good idea for phones, since it seems like it would be easily ripped/broken off in the pocket, but I like the idea for laptops. (neutral) |
