This idea stems from a recent conflict that my idea had with another bakers.

The solution is this idea. Here's how i could see a situation developing.

1) A person generates an idea and posts it. 2) The idea gets read by the rest of us. 3) One of us (1 for simplicity) reads their idea and either: A) Is inspired and creates a unique idea B) changes the other persons words around 4) The idea gets posted and people read it 5) The original author makes a challenge as to the originality

If at the bottom of every post there were times showing when that post was edited any argument would be put to rest. The person could change their idea after they read the second post, but if they questioned the validity of the other post we would all know whats up. Likewise with the other person.

Can there be anything worse than batantly copying someone else's idea ? Shame on you - tsk! tsk! tsk! and have this smelly bone to wear through your nose as punishment..... now where's that clever, wonderful [vincevincevince] idea so that I can pile it up with croissants?

I am sure I could figure out a way to wake up any argument and make it run a few laps, hissing and farting all the way.

Much as I love this place, I think that worrying about priority is taking it a bit too seriously. 21:24:09 GMT.

Actually, worrying about the fact that people are worrying about priority may mean I'm taking it a bit too seriously. Which is seriously worrying.

The real solution for this kind of thing is to have a full Wiki-style edit history - not just the last edit time, but the full sequence of modifications, text, time, and all.

(Otherwise, people don't dare fix typos because it'll destroy their "proof" of originality, even if the edit has nothing to do with that.)

That said, the notion that you personally own something because you thought of it first - whether or not you influence others who think of similar things at roughly the same time - is deeply flawed and ignores how ideas develop.

I wrote that before you, but deleted it.

mfd - redundant but I've not really been paying attention.

I can't understand why i didn't see this coming. Well there is no way to argue, but i take the interest in both the posts to take the idea somewhat seriously.

May I be the first to officially ask for the bakery to implement this idea.

Also i understand that someone could very well today also be the first to ask for this idea to be implemented. I would want to minimize data, Someone could make those changes only after the annos have agreed to it or made a note of it.

//the notion that you personally own something because you thought of it first...is deeply floored//

Ah, the 'ideas as a shag-pile carpet' theory. To elucidate, the warm cosy feeling that the carpet gives to your little tootsies is only the final embodiment of a multi-layered construct consisting of independent strands of material which have become melded together and conjoined through time (along with lots of dust and a few mites).

Well this idea built up and died rather quickly now didn't it.
