The Birth Eve Fridge Door Scrapbook
We look through it and add a page, the day before each birthday.

The sheet steel pages are enameled in white, maroon or avocado, are piano-hinged and bound with wing nuts. Stuck to the pages are colorful magnets in different forms, each with their own history. Between the magnets and the steel are clasped juvenile art, school photos and affectionate notes.

Once a year the parents and child page through the heavy book, warmed by renewed fond memories and the fading colors of party invitations and blue ribbons. Then the refrigerator door is weeded of the clutter of one youngster’s year to add a new leaf to the scrapbook.

Annotation:

I knew some people who did something like this - they had a noticebord stretching all the way along a pretty long wall in their kitchen. It held a years-worth of stuff in linear sequence, so when stuff was added it would replace year-old stuff.

What a great idea. You could add Harvest Gold and brushed steel to the line. Each page should be backed with something to keep the next page's magnets from accidently sticking to it. Is there a birthday coming up in your family?

No...oh, thanks for reminding me; my brother had a birthday the other day.
